Little Free Library
Our original hand-crafted Little Free Library has arrived!
Built and designed by two local artists -
Jared MacDonald built the library, modeled after a triple-decker, an iconic housing style in the Cambridge and Somerville area.
Grace Julian-Murthy painted the library with native flowers and pollinators on the exterior, and cow patterns on the interior, representing Porter Square's history as a cattle hub.
Celebrate the launch of our original Little Free Library this Thursday, September 17th!
Experience this little library today as a way to exchange books, find your next read and connect with the community. Books can be exchanged and explored for all ages. Located in the courtyard in front of TAGS and Michaels.
About the Artists
This project is in collaboration with Gallery 263, featuring local artists in the community.
Jared MacDonald
Jared has done woodworking for friends, family, neighbors and customers for about 20 years. He is very happy to build anything, though his personal style leans towards the Shaker, Japanese, and mid-century woodworking traditions -- clean and simple forms that are light on ornamentation. That's partly why this project -- to replicate and highlight the details of a classic triple-decker house -- was such a fun departure. Jared is a lifelong Catabridgian and is excited to have a chance to contribute public art to his hometown.

Grace Julian-Murthy
Grace is a painter, illustrator, and graphic designer whose work is influenced by pop art and comics. Her art is a journey of happiness that uses a visual language of humor, nostalgia, color, shape and everyday objects to illustrate that you can find joy in the simple things in life. She believes that art exists all around us and all it takes to be appreciated is a closer look.
